Completed a variety of freelance assignments. Reviewed, edited and ensured compliance with a government request for proposal for Blue Cross of California (more than 1,500 pages, estimated contract value of $3.5 billion). Co-authored Injury and Illness Prevention Program (SB 198) compliance manual prepared by Disaster and Emergency Management Institute. Managing Editor – Foothill Inter-City Newspapers, Duarte, CA (1989–1991)
Supervised eight-member editorial staff and several correspondents to produce a set of four newspapers published twice each week. Assigned and edited stories, offered direction and suggestions, determined story selection and placement and completed page layout using a pagination system. Wrote weekly editorial. Interacted with local civic and business leaders. Worked collaboratively with reporters who had a longstanding history with the newspaper and better understood the audience we served.
